1970-Quaker House in the Cross-hairs

From early in its existence, Quaker House was under frequent surveillance by both Army Intelligence agents and
undercover FBI informants.

The documents below, obtained through the Freedom of Information Act, show the extent of this government spying. Many more documents were withheld by the agencies; the CIA also acknowledged having a file on Quaker house, but declined to release any of its contents.

The reports on the suspicious fire of May 20, 1970, is taken from these intelligence files. Other GI organizing projects around the country were also subject to such apparent and unsolved attacks.

The response of Quaker House staff and board members to the fire was defiant, and the project continued.
