Peace Witness -- Part of the Work
Chuck Fager writes: "I wasn't expecting to do much public witness
as Director of Quaker House.
I guess I should have known better. With a war on, occasions
for witness just come up.
Here are photos from two peaceful actions. The top snapshot is
from Friday, March 15, 2002,
when George W. Bush came to Fayetteville and Ft. Bragg, to drum up support in
Congress
for more war spending. That morning, exactly four of us stepped out on the
road across from
the arena where he was speaking, with our signs of dissent. From left to
right we are: Chuck,
Maura O'Neill, and Jim Stockwell. (The fourth was Patrick O'Neill, Maura's father,
who
took this photo.) For more details about that action, click here.
The bottom photo is from Sunday March 24, 2002, when an Interfaith
Pilgrimage
for Justice and Peace started a statewide Holy Week walk in Fayetteville. In the
photo, we
are standing on the site of the original Quaker House, 324 Ray Street, remembering
it
and the firebomb attack on it in May, 1970.
